Pavilions/Picnics/Permits

Planning a picnic or family reunion, but afraid it might rain? Why not rent one of the two Pavilions that are available in Patterson Park for a large group or just a few friends. There are playgrounds, the Boat Lake and many other things to do and see nearby. Permits are necessary in order to reserve a specific location for an event. Call the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks Permit Office at 410-396-7070 for more information.

A permit is required in order to reserve a specific location for a private picnic or function, to use grills, or to serve beer or wine as well as for public assemblies, gatherings or any other event open to the public (festivals, fairs, flea markets, concerts, parades, races, leafleting or religious services).

A General Park Permit is required for small private events (picnics, reunions, weddings, etc.) with an expected attendance of less than 500. Selling or vending for self gain, or promotion of a business or product, is not permitted. A General Park Permit is necessary to reserve a specific park location or pavilion, to use grills, to serve beer or wine (glass containers are prohibited and no one under 21 years of age may be served). An application for a General Park Permit must be submitted at least 30 days prior to an event. A $35 application fee is required and an additional fee may be charged to reserve one of the pavilions.

A Special Event Permit is required for public events or assemblies or private events with an expected attendance of 500 or more. Special Event Permits are issued to nonprofit organizations for the purpose of fundraising (concerts, festivals, fairs, flea markets) and/or solicitation. Special Events cannot promote a business or product. Application must be submitted 8 weeks prior to the event with a $35 application fee.

All permits must be filed with the Department of Recreation and Parks, 410-396-7070.
