Patterson Park Capital Improvements

Boat Lake Restoration - in January 2002, this project was awarded to Allied Construction Company and restoration is underway. The project, which is a complete restoration, includes dredging, environmental signage, and wetland planting. The project will take approximately one year to complete.

Flag Pole Replacement/Relocation - the 100' flagpole that was located in front of the Latrobe Marble Fountain was heavily damaged by lightening. Since that time it has been replaced and relocated to one of the highest points in the park, the grassy knoll along South Patterson Park Avenue near the Pagoda. The flag can be seen from Fort McHenry.

Marble Fountain Restoration - located at the South Patterson Park Avenue and Lombard Street entrance, this plan calls for a complete restoration of the Marble Fountain and creation of a public space. A $100,000 grant was received from the TKF Foundation in order to have this project completed. The TKF Foundtion funds parks and landscape projects that fulfill the goal of creating "open spaces, sacred places". They felt that this fountain fit their mission. They also have offered a $10,000 challenge grant to the Friends of Patterson Park for extra fountain amenities, such as landscaping, outdoor furniture, and signage. Design work for the fountain restoration project will begin in Spring 2002.

Pagoda Restoration - complete restoration of the Pagoda and surrounding grounds is complete. The contractor was Worchester-Eisenbrandt, a local historical preservation and restoration company. An eventful grand re-opening was held in April 2002. The Pagoda is open on Sundays for tours from noon until 4 PM.

Perimeter Improvements - Victorian lampposts have been installed around the entire perimeter of the park. Re-setting 1900's asphalt pavers and repairing entrances at South Patterson Park Avenue and Lombard Street and Eastern and Linwood Avenues is still in progress. Allied Contracting is the contractor for this entire project. Completion date is expected for April 2002 when the Pagoda is re-dedicated.

Pulaski Monument Restoration - A celebration to mark the completion of the restoration of this monument was held in October 2001. There was a parade through the park to the monument where the Pulaski Monument Restoration Celebration began. The work was completed by Steven Tatti and Bob Pringle.
