Tudor Field House

The Tudor Field House, built in 1905, was designed by Wyatt and Nolting of Baltimore. The Olmsted Brothers, who initially proposed that it serve as a field house for recreational activities, originated the concept. The building once had two wings on the southern side which extended diagonally to frame the circular swimming beach and serve as bath houses. These wings were an unfortunate casualty of an arson fire in the 1970’s. This Tudor Revival style building is the only building in the park that represents the Recreation Movement that began to take shape at the turn of the century. Although it is currently in disrepair, the Friends of Patterson Park are working with the Department of Recreation and Parks on a plan to restore this structure to its original grandeur.
