Deepening Roots, Cultivating COmmunity: The campaign

Phase 1 addressed the 1868 Park Superintendent’s House, resulting in a full renovation and roof replacement.

Phase 2 involved the construction of a new 1200 sq ft community programming space and adjacent volunteer support center, electric vehicle garage and volunteer supply lending closet.

Since the creation of the Friends of Patterson Park in 1998, we have worked to preserve the history and beauty of Patterson Park and to meet community needs while encouraging park use by all of our diverse neighbors. We found that in order to continue to do this well, we needed to both address the condition of our headquarters at the 1868 Park Superintendent’s House through an extensive restoration, as well as address the pressing need for new multi-use indoor programming space and storage.

To raise funding for these endeavors, we turned to our community, our partners, and our members. With the kick off of our Deepening Roots, Cultivating Community Campaign in February of 2020 to a final push in 2024, we raised more than $2.5 million to complete both phases of the project. Our offices at Park Superintendent’s House are renewed, and the new construction is complete at last, with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony held in December 2024.

With this vision fulfilled, we are excited to renew our commitment to Baltimore and this beautiful park community - deepening our roots within the park, caring for this special place and creating programs that cultivate connections within our park network and beyond.

Welcome to Cedar House at Patterson Park

The newly-built Cedar House at Patterson Park encompasses The Meyerhoff Community Commons, a 1200 sq. foot community programming space, and The Shed, our volunteer support center, electric vehicle garage and supply lending closet. The Meyerhoff Community Commons will be the site of new Friends of Patterson Park programming as well as be a back up space for outdoors programming when the weather is cold or stormy, so that we aren’t canceling programs that can be moved inside. We will be taking requests for lending the space to community partners for their meetings as well as opening it up for private events starting in March 2025.
