Historia y Significado
El Día del Niño se celebra por toda América Latina y por todo el mundo como un día en el que honramos las contribuciones de los niños y los jóvenes a nuestras comunidades. Iniciada en 2010 por miembros de nuestro Consejo Hispano, la celebración del Día del Niño de Friends of Patterson Park es un evento anual al aire libre que se ha convertido en un evento favorito de la comunidad (adaptado de su ubicación original en la Patterson Park Public Charter School).
¡Al traer más de 2.000 personas al parque, todas las actividades, espectáculos y comida son gratis y nada se compra ni se vende durante el evento para que las familias puedan disfrutar de todo lo que tiene que ofrecer sin tener que pensar en el precio!
El Día del Niño en el Parque Patterson sigue a estos inquilinos básicos: Enfatizar la importancia de los niños y los jóvenes en nuestra comunidad; Promover el bienestar de todos los niños; Celebrar el idioma y la cultura del hogar; Alentar a los miembros de la comunidad y a los padres a apoyar a los jóvenes; y Abogar por los derechos y la protección de los niños.
¡Piñatas, Piñatas, Piñatas!
Cada lugar celebra el Día del Niño de forma diferente y aquí en Baltimore lo celebramos con piñatas para todos! Voluntarios del grupo Mis Raices con base en la Patterson Park Public Charter School trabajan duro para hacer más de 30 piñatas para el evento, para que cada niño tenga un turno con la piñata. Estas piñatas están hechas de material reciclado y biodegradable y son tan hermosas que casi no quieres romperlas!

¡El Día del Niño sólo es posible gracias a todos los voluntarios que vienen a ayudar con el evento! Desde la inscripción, a ayudar con las estaciones de piñatas, las pintas caritas, a ayudar con la limpieza, necesitamos voluntarios para hacer que todo suceda. ¡Gracias a todos los voluntarios (muchos son jóvenes de los colegios de la ciudad y miembros de la comunidad del parque) que siempre mucho energía y tiempo al evento!

Event History and Meaning
Día del Niño (or Kids’ Day) is celebrated throughout Latin America and the around world as a day in which we honor the contributions of children and youth to our communities. Started in 2010 by members of our Consejo Hispano, Friends of Patterson Park's Día del Niño Celebration is an annual outdoor event that has become a community staple (adapted from its original location in Patterson Park Public Charter School).
Bringing over 2,000 people to the park, all activities, performances, and food are free and nothing is bought or sold during the event so that families can enjoy all it has to offer without having to think about price!
Día del Niño in Patterson Park follows these basic tenants: Emphasize the importance of children and youth in our community; Promote the well-being of all children; Celebrate home language and culture; Encourage community members and parents to support youth; and Advocate for the rights and protection of children.

¡Piñatas, Piñatas, Piñatas!
Each place celebrates Día del Niño differently and here in Baltimore we celebrate with piñatas for all! Volunteers from the Mis Raices group based at Patterson Park Public Charter School work hard to make over 30 piñatas for the event so that every child gets a swing at a piñata. These piñatas are made from recycled and biodegradable material and are so beautiful that you almost don't want to break them!

We love our Volunteers!
Día del Niño is only possible because of all of the volunteers who come out to help with the event! From running registration, to helping with the piñata stations, to helping with set up or clean up, we need volunteers to make it all happen. Thank you to all of our volunteers (many of them students from Baltimore High Schools and members of the Patterson Park community) who always give a ton of energy and time to the event!
