Voluntober! in the Park

Voluntober! in the Park

We had an amazing time the morning of Saturday, October 6th at Voluntober!, our fall multi-team volunteer event.

We had 72 volunteers clean the Boat Lake, pick up trash, plant 53 trees in partnership with TreeBaltimore, mulch many more trees (100!) with two truckloads of mulch and clean the playground.

We were happy to work alongside Patterson Audubon, and it was great to have Friends School of Baltimore bring volunteers, and provide free face painting and live music.

Thank you to all who participated, and look out for our spring Volunteer Extravaganza in April!

Wine at Sunset 2018

Wine at Sunset 2018

Another Patterson Park Wine at Sunset is in the books  - this was our 14th!  - and it was a great one! The weather was perfect this year, the auction was hopping, music was rockin', wine was flowing and the food was flawless.

More than 550 people enjoyed wine and bites from local restaurants, including Water for Chocolate, Charm*d Kitchen, DiPasquale's, Cafe Gia, Twist, Points South Latin Kitchen, Taco Bar and Dessert Fantasies.  Thanks to all of these wonderful restaurants, and Monument City Brewing Company, who brought their new Pagoda Pale Ale!

Thank you to all of our attendees and auction winners and generous auction donors who helped us raise $25,000+ for Patterson Park! And extra special thanks to our wonderful hosts Danny & Michelle Barnycz and Ron & Jen Howard!

We can't wait for next year! (Put it on your calendars...May 23, 2019!)

The Friends receive grant to support new Junior Pagoda Docent Program

The Friends receive grant to support new Junior Pagoda Docent Program

The Friends of Patterson Park was chosen to receive a $1,500 grant from America Walks to develop and support a new Junior Pagoda Docent Program, which will train Baltimore youth to help run an after-school program for elementary school children who live walking distance to the park. This program reflects part of the Friends' mission to make the park a welcoming place for all members of our diverse community, by both training and engaging local youth and bringing elementary school children to the park from schools that don't already use Patterson Park in their curriculum.  This year, the program will be geared towards children from Tench-Tillman Elementary School, who will arrive at the park via a “walking school bus” and then enjoy a tour of the park’s historic Pagoda, as well as fitness and arts activities, encouraging them to walk to and around the park with their parents.

America Walks announced the latest grantees of the Community Change Micro Grant program on January 3. This micro grant program provides funds that support grassroots efforts aimed at empowering communities to create more safe, accessible and enjoyable places to walk and be physically active. Now in its third year, this program has supported everything from new art to improved way-‐finding, local events to school engagement projects. The Friends of Patterson Park was chosen as one of 27 grant recipients, out of 450 applicants nation-wide. For more information on America Walks and its 2018 grantees, click here.
